Woodcraft on Show 2019 Major Prize Winner
Woodcraft on Show 2019 Major Prize Winner The Windsor chair was made by Marie-Louise McMahon totally by hand without the assistance of any machine tools. Ms McMahon commenced with a billet of Robinia (Black Locust) then split, pared and shaped the timber using a froe, adze, drawknife, pole lathe then spokeshaves and scrapers to finish up with an outstanding example of a Windsor chair. Other timbers used include Camphor Laurel, American Ash and Red Box. Ms McMahon's tutor was Howard Archbold of 'Rare Chairs' at Moonan Flats near Scone.
